Description
By the Hot Springs of Caldas
We will visit the most ancient Thermal Hospital of the World. Inside we are going to have a look on the “Pool of the Queen” where D. Leonor, Portuguese Queen and founder of the city took some baths…
The Thermal Heritage walk beside the waters
We start at the historic centreer, where a great part of the thermal heritage is concentrated, and we will visit the Thermal Hospital where we can see stays the Swimming Pool where the Queen bathed.
Next to the Thermal Hospital is the simple but artistically rich Nossa Senhora do Pópulo Church and the green D. Carlos I Park. During this visit, we will discover the most important phases of the city’s history, from its foundation, to the urban renewal by the hand of king D. João V, to the golden age of the 19th century, during which Caldas da Rainha became one of the most important places in Portugal.
Cavacas, a delicious break
There are many delights of Caldas, of which we highlight the “Cavacas” and the “Beijinhos”. We invite you to have a break on a traditional pastry where we will taste the real Cavaca of Caldas. If the visit is in the morning, we will have the opportunity to feel the lively Praça da Fruta, a daily street market dedicated to fresh fruit and local products
